As members of D5 for Black Lives, we demand that you vote NO on agenda items AHFC001 and AHFC002 at tomorrow’s vote.
Granting affordable housing contracts to white-led art organizations (DMA Development Company, LLC, Big Medium, MRE Capital, Imagine Art) is problematic on multiple levels. These groups have not earned trust or built relationships with residents of color in East Austin. The contracts would perpetuate gentrification as many East Austin families are being displaced and waiting for low-income housing in order to return to the neighborhood.
Do the right thing. Show us that the lives of Black and Brown residents of Austin matter. Stand in solidarity with Black and Brown-led organizations including Communities of Color United for Racial Justice and Govalle/Johnston Terrace Neighborhood Plan Contact Team and vote against these two agenda items.
